about

The album was recorded at Shakey Egg Studios. It features local favourite "Edinburgh" - the self deprecating song about Scotland's capital which manges to poke fun at everyone's expense. All set to a latin beat - por que no? There are country tinges numbers, pop and allsorts. If Ms Fi & the Lost Head Band was a packet of sweets it'd be Dolly Mixtures...

Track Name: Summer in the city
Summer’s in the city

Summer’s in the city, hearts beating faster
Dusty street, gritty-eyed shimmering sun
Girls looking pretty and boys chase after
Soft soothing rays of the setting one

Summer’s in the city, teeth show whiter
Bared with a smile for thing to come
Loose-limbed strolling street prize fighters
After the joy of a love that’s won

Promises of better days,
tricks sunlight plays

Summer’s in the city skin colours richly
Flushed with the thrill of careless fun
Swirling round giddy scents inhaled deeply
Infuse the world to a single one.

Caught beneath the shadow of the sun,
see the sun lover’s burn.
Track Name: Show me the bar
Show me the bar

So chop off my head, then I’ll be dead
And I won’t have to worry no more…
If that sounds quite drastic and somewhat fantastic,
Then just show me the bar.

Lop off a leg and I won’t even beg
For something to settle the score…
If that sounds far fetched, pity this wretch
(And) just show me the bar

Was a time I just thrived on just being alive
Dancing my days in the sun.
(But) now that I’m older my feet have grown colder
My dancing days are all done.

So cut off my arms, I won’t sound the alarms
Truncated won’t even implore…
If that sounds too much and it could seem like such:
(Then) just show me the bar

It’s not that I’m reprehensible,
It’s just that I’m feeling insensible.
Not a week goes by I don’t weep or sigh;
Not a day goes past I don’t feel like an ass -
So just show me the bar.
Track Name: Dark coming down
Dark coming down

I don’t know where my love has gone
Headed off down the road
Distance is too far for my eyes to see
Hope he finds his way

I don’t know when my love will return
Surely seems to be some time
I just hope everything is alright
And he finds these arms of mine

Ain’t it time to come home love?
Dark is coming down
Light’s growing dim and I’m singing
Ain’t it time to come home?

Ain’t it time to come home now?
Dark is coming down
Light’s growing dim and I’m singing
Ain’t it time to come home?

Instrumental verse

Ain’t it time to come home love?
Dark is coming down
Light’s growing dim and I’m singing
Ain’t it time to come home?

Ain’t it time to come home now?
Dark is coming down
Light’s growing dim and I’m singing
Ain’t it time to come home?

I don’t know what’s taking so long
Look for his shape in the street
I can’t get on and there’s work to be done
Track Name: Edinburgh
Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s my home town, but it’s cold and it’s tired and the rain comes down. Edinburgh’s a painter’s dream, pretty façade ripped at the seams.
Senoritas from sleepy Spain come here to work well they must be insane (don’t they know that it’s cold, maybe nobody told)
Edinburgh the pace is slow, it’s stately and calm, it’s not Glasgow.

In the dark little closes, couples dwell.
On the quaint cobbled streets the radges yell.

Edinburgh’s a strange old place, got two sides to its public face.
Edinburgh’s got venues and clubs, cute little doggies and dodgy pubs.
Puzzled Poles in the cafes and bars laugh at the locals with our souped up cars, (going nowhere, there’s nowhere to go, traffic’s too slow)
Edinburgh is sometimes twee with its tartan and pipes but it’s not Dundee.

In the dark little closes, couples dwell
On the quaint cobbled streets the radges yell
na, na-na, na-na, na na na…
na, na-na, na-na, na na na…
Na, na na-na na…

All I ever wanted was a hand to hold
All I ever needed was some warmth in the cold.

Instrumental Break

Edinburgh’s a dear old town, fur coat nae knickers and a permanent frown.
In Edinburgh people write good books get tutts from the natives and suspicious looks.
Tourists come from far and wide, gasp at the scenery and run and hide from the townsfolk.
Edinburgh doesn’t need to impress, it’s been a city for ages, unlike Inverness.

In the dark little closes, couples dwell
On the quaint cobbled streets the radges yell
They go na, na-na, na-na, na na na…
na, na-na, na-na, na na na……
Na na na-na, na-na

Track Name: Sunday
Sunday

Sunday’s the day my neighbours argue with each other; I hear them through the wall.

On Sunday I just sit here on the sofa staring out the window, doing nothing at all.

That’s the day I remember, who I am, who I’m not.

Sunday folks gather together around the oven, worshipping the roast.

Some folks like to go into the church, drink their bloody wine, eat the holy toast.

That’s the day we remember, who we are, who we’re not.

With Songs to remind us, songs to forget, songs of happiness and regret.

Sunday is a day for lovers, see them in the park, life is such a lark.

On Sunday you can go to the cinema, art house, catch a matinee.

That’s the day I remember, who I am, who I’m not.

Sunday folks are out there washing cars, kids play in the street, little ones just greet.

Mothers are all inside watching tv – could be Eastenders, or maybe Corrie.

That’s the day we remember, who we are, who we’re not.

With songs to remind us, songs to forget songs of happiness and regret.

Its Sunday everyday, Sunday everyday, Sunday everyday…

But there, hanging in the sky, Monday’s moon, comes too soon.

Inst break.

That’s the day we remember who we were and who we could be

Track Name: I c u c me
See you, see me – 60s pop shew ap

I see you, you see me
We adjust our gaze accordingly
And thus we don’t see eye to eye, you and I.

I go left as you turn right
Chances of meeting are becoming slight
And so we don’t go head to head which we dread.

And I’m so wanting to meet you (shew –ap)
If we get together we could talk the whole night through
Need to work to get the signal clear
Talk is cheap: misunderstanding’s dear.

Ooo oo ooo
You go up as I go down (oooh)
Oo oo ah ah ah
You meet my smile with a worried frown
So hard to get the message through, it’s true.

And I’m so wanting to meet you
If we get together we could talk the whole night through
Need to work to get the signal clear
Talk is cheap: misunderstanding’s dear.

I go left as you turn right
Meet in the middle it’ll be alright
Thus we might see eye to eye, you and I.
If the world could just see eye to eye we’ll get by
If the world could just see eye to eye we’ll get by…
Track Name: Ancient star (i wish)
Ancient star

I wish upon an ancient star that died so long ago
That civilisations have come and gone without anyone to know
Who they were or what they did or anything profound
I wish I had the answers so I could spread them around.

I wish I wish I wish o how I wish

I wish that stressed out businessmen could do parcour in L’harve
I wish that fat Americans were forced to watch poor Africans starve and consider then just what they eat and who they eat and how
I wish I knew what Elvis was doing right now.

I wish I wish I wish o how I wish
And the world goes on… on and on and on,…on and(a) on and(a) on

I wish I was a better person constant firm and true
To a purpose serving my higher work and I wish I knew
All the answers so I could spread them all around
But I don’t even know who I am or anything profound.

I wish I wish I wish o how I wish
And the world goes on… on and on and on,…on and(a) on and(a) on
instr

I wish I was an ancient star from the movies long ago
When eyes were wide and we could hide just what we did not know with fades to black and reaction shots to something just out of sight
How I wish just one day I could do something right.

I wish I wish I wish o how I wish
And the song goes on…on and on and on,…on and(a) on and(a) on

I wish that I could find a way to end this cursed song
Coz by now I’ve realized I gone on a bit too long
Maybe I could just stop.
